Vaccines
As we push into parvo season, the team at Colorado River Animal Medical Center would like to remind you that choosing to provide preventative healthcare measures such as vaccinations for you pet is essential to your pet's overall health and well being. Your pet is depending on you to make the healthiest choices possible for them. Ensure your pet has the healthiest and happiest start possible by calling to schedule a wellness exam.
Our veterinarians and staff believe a healthy start begins with a healthy diet, testing for Feline Leukemia and FIV in all kittens, testing and treating for worms and parasites including hookworm, roundworm and heartworm in both kittens and puppies, in addition to an age appropriate series of vaccinations designed to prevent several diseases and viruses including Rabies, Canine Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvovirus, Canine Infectious Bronchitis (Kennel Cough), Feline upper-respiratory infections and Feline Leukemia, just to name a few.
Worms and Parasites
We reccomend an annual Fecal Exam, an annual Heartworm Test, the YEAR ROUND use of FRONTLINE PLUS and the YEAR ROUND use of HEARTGARD PLUS as a prevenative against roundworms, hookworms, tapeworms, pinworms(rare), Coccidia, Giardia, Lyme disease, and Heartworms as well as to avoid the frustration of a flea or tick infestation.
It is also reccomended you follow these precautions if you have children as there are several zoonotic diseases that your pet is able to transmit to yourself and your chidren.
A Fecal Exam- microscopic examination of feces for worms and parsites not visable to the naked eye
A Heartworm Test - a blood test used to screen for heartworms.
We follow the reccomedation for heartworm testing from THE AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION

Dental Care
Dental disease is the most common disease in dogs and cats. Over 68% of pets over the age of 3 suffer from some form of dental disease. It is an often painful condition that often goes unnoticed because pets, particularly cats, are very good at hiding pain. At home dental care is a must for all pets and they are depending on you to protect them from dental disease. We offer a variety of preventative aids for dental care including:
CET Dental Chews and Feline Oral Chews, Tarter Control Treats, assorted flavors of Pet Safe toothpaste and toothbrushes, dental health food and water additives for those more challenging pets, Hill's t/d Canine and Feline diets, any many more.
We also offer in house Dental Cleanings for your pet. This procedure is generally reccomended for pets 2 years of age or older who are experiencing moderate to severe tarter build up, inflammation or infection of the gum tissue surrounding the teeth (gingivitis), and or bad breath that does not improve with the use of preventative products. The procedure involves performing a thorough dental exam, pre-anesthetice bloodwork to ensure that liver and kidney functions are satisfactory for anesthesia, and occasionally antibiotic treatment is necessary before a full dental cleaning can be performed.
Diet and Treat Options
From birth to senior, thin, average, overweight, arthritic, diabetic, picky, itchy or scratchy we have a variety of VETERINARY EXCLUSIVE diets from Royal Canin and Hill's Pet Nutrition for both dog's and cat's. Come in and take a look.
